Eurycleia was one of the good servant of Odysseus. He noticed a scar on the beggar's leg which revealed Odysseus to him. Odysseus ordered the servant not to tell anyone that he has returned back home. Then Odysseus left the palace as a old beggar not revealing himself. It was the day of the contest. All the people on the Island gathered to view and participate in the contest. Penelope was not really interested in the marriage but she wished to keep up the promise made to her husband. All the nobles participated in the contest and none of the nobles were able to string the bow. Odysseus also participated in the contest but as a beggar.

Penelope believed the old beggar but informed that she could no longer wait. Once when Odysseus was at home before he left for Troy, Penelope made a promise to him that she would find a new husband if he did not return back home. She kept the promise for ten years but of now she wished to held a contest of strength and skill to find her new husband. The men who participate in the contest should use Odysseus's bow and shoot an arrow through rings in twelve axe handles. Penelope ordered her servant to send the old beggar by giving him some food or money and bid goodnight. Eurycleia was the servant who was asked to send the beggar out.
Odysseus disguised himself into an old beggar with the help of Athena. Odysseus saw his son Telemachus after a long time but did not talk to him as he disguised himself. Eumaeus who was an old servant of Odysseus was along with his son as well. They were on the way to their palace and Odysseus begged them for food as if he was starving from hunger. A nobleman named Antinous tossed a stool at the old beggar whose is none other than Odysseus. The old beggar tried to reach Penelope and informed her that his husband Odysseus wished to meet her. He also added that he had word of her husband.
Odysseus reached the Island Phoenicia safely. The King of Phoenicia helped Odysseus by providing him a ship and ordered him to sail to Ithica. Odysseus was tired of these storms and disasters, so he soon fell asleep. The sailors sailed towards Ithica and dropped him on the shore while he was asleep. When Odysseus woke up, he was shocked on seeing that he reached Ithica. Athena appeared and was the first one to greet hime to his land. She also warned him about the nobles who occupied his home when he left far away. They wished to cout Penelope and assume his throne. Odysseus remember the death of Agamemnon and how was he cheated.
Hermes delivered the message sent by Zeus to Calypso. Calypso loved Odysseus and hence she hesitated to release Odysseus. However she unwillingly helped Odysseus to build a raft by supplying him some wood. She also unhappily accepted Zeus mandate. Odysseus constructed a raft very soon and left the Island before Poseidon comes to know about his release. But Poseidon received the escape somehow and was furious at Zeus. He sent a storm to kill Odysseus but Odysseus was saved by the sea Goddess Leucotha. She provided him a Veil which saved his life. Odysseus reached Phoenicia with the help of her Veil.
The entire Crew was destroyed except Odysseus since they disobeyed the command of Teirisisas. Odysseus was floating on a timber from the destroyed ship and reached the Island of Ogygia after nine days. There lived a beautiful women named Calypso the daughter of Titan Atlas. She Fell in love with Odysseus on seeing him. Calypso offered him immortality which was refused, but he stayed in the same Island for seven years. She accompanied him and hence he could not get off the Island. But still Odysseus wished to reach Penelope. Athena wished to relieve Odysseus with the help of Zeus. She planned it while Poseidon was away from Mount Olympus. Zeus sent Hermes to inform Calypso and release Odysseus.
The crew men stayed along with Odysseus in the Island of Thrinacia for a month and hence there was a famine. They were in search of shelter but there was no other way than killing the cattle for some food. Odysseus was little tired and he fell asleep. In the meanwhile, Eurylochus ordered his fellow mate to kill the cattle for food. He is none other than Odysseus first mate. When Odysseus woke up and saw the men preparing meat, He was frustrated and worried as the men did not hear his words. The sun God Helius got tensed wished the crew to be punished. When the Ship left the Island, Zeus sent a storm which completley destroyed the crew except Odysseus.
Odysseus and his crew men were not aware of Scylla. You might wonder who is Scylla? He is a six headed monster living in the Cliff for years. They crossed the whirlpool safe but caught into the hands of Scylla. As he is a huge monster he seized 6 of the crew men and ate them. However they crossed the Island by losing six of his crew men and survived the whirlpool. The left out men along with Odysseus finally reached the Island of Thrinacia. He also warned his men not to harm any of the animals in the Island as they are the herds of the daughter of Helius. The whole crew stayed in the Island for a month as the direction of wind was toward the South which opposes their sailing.
As Odysseus was tied to the mast, his ears was wide open whereas all other's ears was covered with wax. Sirens thought to distract the men by singing beautiful songs. But they could never reach it as the only one who could hear was Odysseus. He asked his men to untie him but his men never did so. Sirens sang the songs which lured ships into rocks. As the Sirens could not distract other men, they threw themselves into the sea. Odysseus and his men crossed the Island with no harm. They sailed towards the Strait of Messina. There was a whirlpool in the Strait which sunk down the ships. So Odysseus noticed it and asked his men to row the ship faster towards a Cliff.
Odysseus was also warned about a home filled with Suitors for his wife Penelope. Agamemnon's soul appeared and described about the murder of him while he returned to that home. He also informed Odysseus to disguise himself so that he can be aware of the situation at home and avoid the same trap as Agamemnon murdered. The crew then returned to the Circe Island to bury their shipmate. Circe reminded them not to harm the herds of Helius and warned Sirens which could wreck them. They then sailed towards their home but they have to cross Island of Sirens. Odysseus was tied to the mast and all other men covered the ears with Wax.
After a long journey, Odysseus arrived at the junction of the rivers Acheron, Periphlegthon, and Cocytas. He and his crew members dug a pit and burried several precious things in it which arised several ghosts. Odysseus saw the soul of his mother who passed away after he left home and his fellow shipmate who died in the Circe's Island as well. Finally, he found the soul of Teirisias who can guide them to reach the land of Ithica. Odysseus was provided with few instructions by Teirisias and Agamemnon who revealed his death. He was warned that his men should not touch the immortal herds tended by the two daughters of Helius, Also informed that hey should not harm any animals. If something goes wrong then Odysseus will be the only person who will return home alone in a foreign Ship.
